Metlakatla Girl Scouts
"Where girls grow strong"
Activities 2005-2006
In November we made Thanksgiving Day cards for the
Senior Citizens and added them to boxes of cookies from
the Gift of Caring program. This program donated over
50 boxes of cookies to the Seniors.
In December we made Christmas caroling
books and practiced singing. We had planned to go
around town and sing but the weather didn't cooperate.
We did have an overnight stay on the 26th we had good
attendance and the girls had a wonderful time.
January started off with our cookies
sales campaign. The girls will be around taking orders
until the 31st. We also worked on our postcards to be
mailed out as our Thinking Day project. We are
exchanging cards with all 50 states, Canada, England,
France and Scotland.
In February, we have been getting
to know our fellow scouts, through
games and activities to show how
alike and different we are. We also went on a nature hike
and did a scavenger hunt, in which Zandra Bevis was the
winner collecting everything on the list. On February 21st
we had a Family Potluck Dinner for Thinking Day. We
had 14 girls and their families participate and bring an
International food dish to share. Everything was so good
and we shared the post cards we received from our sister
Girl Scouts and Girl Guides all over the world.
March had us delivering our cookies which
is a major fund raiser for us. We did really
well this year. In our meetings we worked
on learning different Girl Scout songs to get ready for
camp in the summer. We also made
tambourines out of paper plates and
since the weather has been getting
better we played games outside.
April washed in with a few more sunny days for us to
work outside. We continued to play games and worked
on our songbooks, made rain sticks and made plans for
Mother's Day project, which led us into May. It took us
several meetings to make our flowers to give to our
mothers but they turned out nice. Our next project is
making rock pets. We went out and gathered rocks
already. We will then paint them and add eyes, ears,
antenna etc... to make them more like pets than plain old
rocks.
